There's a new foldable phone in town: The Oppo Find N. After teasing its new foldable last week, the Chinese electronics-maker launched its latest Find N foldable phone on Wednesday, during the second day of its "Inno Day" event.
The new phone, which will be sold only in China starting on Dec. 23, is a little smaller than rival foldable devices like Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold line. The Find N has a similar design to the Z Fold, but sports a 5.49-inch outer display and a 7.1-inch inner screen. Samsung's phone, by contrast, has a 6.2-inch screen on the front and a 7.6-inch display when opened.
The inner display, however, was a different story. The 7.1-inch E5 AMOLED foldable display with 120Hz refresh offers a lot of screen real estate, almost more than you’d expect out of this device. Additionally, the phone’s 1792×1920 FHD+ resolution coupled with its almost square aspect ratio makes reading, gaming, and media consumption a delightful experience. But, the maximum manual brightness of this device at 500nits felt somewhat unimpressive. However, the most impressive detail about this device is its Flexion hinge. From most viewing angles, the crease of the screen was unnoticeable. The hinge design practically eliminates the gap between the display when folded, protecting it from scratches. The hinge also allows the phone to be seated at any angle between 50 and 120 degrees, enabling functionalities akin to a miniature laptop. This seated form allows for hands-free usage while consuming media or attending a video call and turns the bottom part of the screen into a controller.
That’s not all, Oppo also made vegan leather variants in grey, beige and dark blue with the latter two sporting two-tone looks. Some of these unreleased models also have differently textured camera housings only add to their cool factor. Oppo’s vegan leather Find X2 was one of our favorite devices of 2020 in terms of build with its faux leather material adding durability and a soft reassuring feeling when handling the device. We can only imagine how the vegan leather Find N would handle but alas it seems these projects were scrapped
