Qualcomm Snapdragon new Chip | snapdragon 895/898 | Tuning heating issue

For a few years, Qualcomm was quite consistent with its naming for its Snapdragon 8xx series flagship processors. Since 2017 (Snapdragon 835), it was consistent until the Snapdragon 888 SoC released in December last year. Instead of calling its December chip “Snapdragon 875”, the company opted for “Snapdragon 888“. Qualcomm claims that “888” is a lucky number in China hence its decision to use this number. With this deviation, the exact

Covid vaccine Mis-information | On Facebook reports | For fake updates

In March, Andy Slavitt, then a top pandemic adviser for President Joe Biden, called Nick Clegg, Facebook’s vice president for global affairs, and delivered an ominous warning.

For many weeks, Slavitt and other White House officials had been meeting with Facebook to urge the company to stop the spread of misinformation about the coronavirus vaccines. Many Americans who refused to get vaccinated had cited false stories they read on Facebook, including theories that the shots could lead to infertility, stillborn babies and autism. Slavitt and other officials felt that executives were deflecting blame and resisting requests for information.

Google remove children's image | Restricts ads | Child safety

Google is about to launch a new policy that would enable those who are less than 18 years of age or their parents to get their images removed from the Google Image search results. The policy will be a part of other changes that Google will be implementing throughout its services, including YouTube, Google Assistant, Google Search and more. Keep reading to know more about Google Child Safety initiatives and Google privacy policy update.

Google privacy policy update to provide a safe platform for children

Google is updating its privacy policies to make the platform more secure for children. In the coming weeks, the company will implement quite a few changes throughout the services it provides which will be focused on increasing child safety and security on the platform. The updates are not only limited to Google Images, but also involve new policies within YouTube, Google Play, and Google Workspace.

"While we already provide a range of removal options for people using Google Search, children are at particular risk when it comes to controlling their imagery on the internet. In the coming weeks, we’ll introduce a new policy that enables anyone under the age of 18, or their parent or guardian, to request the removal of their images from Google Image results" ~ Google says in an official blog post on the Indian blog.

Following are the policy changes across the service provided by Google

  • Google images: as stated earlier, Google is about to change its policy, allowing anyone who is not above 18 years of age to request the removal of their images from the Google search engine. Parents and guardians of such children can also apply for the same. However, Google also mentions that removing an image from the search engine does not guarantee its deletion from the internet.
  • YouTube: Google is changing the default upload setting for children between 13 and 17 years of age, and setting it to private so that the videos uploaded cannot be seen by anyone and only whom the creator chooses. Additionally, YouTube will also be implementing digital well-being tools, such as reminders for taking breaks and bedtime.
  • Google Assistant: Google ensures that explicit or mature content is not a part of results that Google Assistant shows as a result of a voice search.

How to remove images from Google image search results?

While there are some ways to request Google to remove content from the search engine, they seem to be restricted to removing non-consensual explicit or intimate personal images, removing involuntary fake pornographic images and other conditional aspects. With the implementation of the new policies, Google might allow users to request the removal of their images under a special clause of being underage.

Google Tensor Chip | New leven on google | Amazing chip

When Google launched the Pixel phones back in 2016, many saw this as the company’s effort to set new standards for what an Android phone should be. Google may have been able to change the standards for what phone cameras can do, but the company surely hasn’t changed smartphones…yet. Enter, Google Tensor, a chip that’s manufactured by Google and will replace Qualcomm SoCs that have powered Pixel phones for the last five years. What do we know about the Tensor chips so far? Not much, but we can make some educated guesses.

What is Google Tensor?

As mentioned above, Google Tensor is a system-on-chip, which means it will be the brains of the Pixel 6 devices. It’s an octa-core chipset built on Samsung’s 5 nanometer fabrication process using processor architectures from ARM. Being the developer of Android, this gives Google an undue advantage of sorts on the smartphone space, since the company can tailor Android to make the new Tensor chip perform better than others. But why is a new chip different?

Here’s why…

You might argue that Google has no background in hardware, and the company’s history with Pixel phones so far doesn’t really give us confidence, except that while Google is new to building new phones, it’s no stranger to building new chips. The Google Tensor is named after something you may have heard of before — the Tensor Processing Unit (TPU), a chip that is quite popular in the data center space.

“Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) are Google’s custom-developed application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) used to accelerate machine learning (ML) workloads. Cloud TPUs allow you to access TPUs from Compute Engine, Google Kubernetes Engine and AI Platform.”

More than half of the AI and ML algorithms that our phones process today actually happens on the cloud. That’s why the Google Assistant or Alexa show a buffering animation when you give them a command. They send your voice command to the cloud, where a processor that’s significantly more powerful than the one on your phone processes the command and tells the phone what to do.

Claim number one…

Which brings us to the first claim that Google is making with the new Google Tensor chip — that it will do more AI processing “on-device”.

When you put two and two together, that’s more than believable right now. TPUs were designed to process AI and ML and possibly replace the powerful GPUs that take care of AI processing at data centers today. Here’s an excerpt from a GPU vs TPU comparison done by Bangalore-based IT firm Mphasis:

“The results indicate that speedups (from TPUs) by a factor of more than 15 are possible, but they appear to come at a cost. First, v3-8 TPU’s pricing is 5.5 times greater than for the P100, which by itself sounds alarming; however, calculating the amount of training per dollar yields a monetary savings of more than 64% since the TPU is so much faster.”

Essentially, Google knows what kind of power is required to process AI algorithms. Which means that in many instances, the Tensor chip won’t need to send data to the cloud. It already knows how to process the commands.

Keep a check on your expectations though, because there’s no way that a chip inside the tiny smartphone can match what a data center chip does. Simply put, phones just cannot provide the same thermal headroom and performance required for data center level performance, at least not till we design the chips that ran Iron Man’s AI in Marvel’s Avengers.

New Facebook Settings | Easy to use FB on mobile devices | New Updates

Facebook is changing its Settings page on the mobile app. The new layout will help people easily find tools they often need quicker. These include managing the ads people see, adjusting sharing settings and curating an audience for posts. The new design rollout has already begun since August 4, and should come to supported devices via an update soon if it hasn’t already.

With over 2.5 billion monthly active users and as many as 1.5 billion daily active users, Facebook is the largest social media network in the world. And to maintain that position, Facebook adds new and relevant features to its application and web portals. In a similar effort, Facebook is refreshing its Settings page in the mobile application, making it easier to use and helping users find the tools they want without wasting any time. Keep reading to know more about the update.

The new Settings page will be easier to navigate and save user's time

Will be available on supported devices soon

Using the redesigned Settings page, users will be able to manage their advertisements across the platform, adjust content sharing settings and define an audience for their post. The new layout has already been launched on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, and will be available on supported devices soon. A new outlay of various settings and menus in the Settings page of Facebook mobile will allow easy navigation for the user and will reduce the time it takes to find the required menu and options.

The new Facebook Settings page reduces number of categories/menus

The new Settings page has lesser categories than the older one. According to the new layout, the Settings page will now be grouped into eight main categories -  Account, Preferences, Audience, Visibility, Permissions, Your Information, Community Standards, and Legal Policies. While the first three will have general settings about the credentials of the account, user's preferences and their audience, the latter will control the reach and visibility of their account. The permissions menu will allow a user to manage the data access by the application, and your information menu will display the user his or her information collected by the application.

Relocation of some settings into broader categories

A new Facebook Settings page layout will also relocate some items into relative categories to avoid crowding the Settings page. For instance, the News Feed setting can now be found in the Preferences menu, while it was earlier found as an individual menu. In an official blog post, Facebook has also mentioned that it will improve the search functionality of the Settings' page, making it "easier to find the settings you need if you don't know the exact name or location of the setting you're looking for."

Iphone 13 battery | Capacity | 5000mAh !!!

From the rumors we've heard so far, there seems to be still quite a lot of the iPhone 12 in the iPhone 13, despite the upgrades that leakers and rumor-mongers have detailed. There's one thing in particular that I hope Apple leaves behind for its 2021 flagship range: the division that has opened up between its Pro and Pro Max models.

In the first two "Max" edition iPhones (iPhone XS Max and iPhone 11 Pro Max), the only difference between it and the smaller model was its display size and battery capacity. However, with the iPhone 12 Pro Max, Apple offered superior cameras to the iPhone 12 Pro, upping the optical zoom from 2x to 2.5x, and adding sensor shift stabilization to the main camera instead of the usual OIS.

As a fan of Apple's smaller-bodied phones, I don't like that these excellent features didn't appear on my iPhone 12 Pro.

  • iPhone 13 release date, price, specs and leaks
  • Check out the best camera phones available right now
  • Plus: Galaxy Note fans petition Samsung to ditch Galaxy S22

I haven't gone for Max-sized iPhones in the past because I like having a smaller phone as my daily driver. It fits in my pocket easier; I can use the handset one-handed; and it's a touch cheaper. I accept in return that the screen isn't quite as impressive, and that the battery will be smaller as a result. Having inferior cameras, because I've picked out the Pro rather than Pro Max model goes against the pattern that Apple established back when it introduced the Max label.

Apple has done this before. A few years ago, from the iPhone 6 and iPhone 8, Apple did offer the "Plus" version of each iPhone model. These started out as just larger models like the Max models did, but eventually Plus handsets sported an extra camera and in some cases more RAM than their basic counterparts.

While this name has apparently been retired since 2017, perhaps it should have been revived last year to make it clear that the largest iPhone 12 Pro available was superior to the other Pro model. While calling a phone "Pro Plus" can be a mouthful, I feel it would have better represented the difference between the two iPhone 12 Pro models.

If Apple went back to this naming convention, I'd still be annoyed that my preference for using smaller iPhones meant I didn't get the best from my new phone, but the name would make more sense based on its prior system for naming phones.

According to the current iPhone 13 rumors, Apple is sticking to the same four-model strategy as with the iPhone 12, including Pro and Pro Max editions. I'm happy to see that these rumors also indicate no difference in cameras between the Pro models, only between Pro and non-Pro iPhone 13s. The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max are both tipped to offer an improved ultra-wide camera with a wider aperture and auto-focus, which would be a welcome upgrade.

Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 5100 | Leaked | In Smartwatch | Chipsetup | Upcoming Watches

Last year, Qualcomm had launched Snapdragon Wear 4100 SoC for wearable devices and now the company is gearing up to launch its successor, which is likely to be called Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 5100.

Folks at XDA-Developers have come across build ID “LAW.UM.2.0-00700-SW5100.00” while digging code in Qualcomm’s Code Aurora Forum. In this context, “LAW” stands for “Linux Android Wear” and for those who are unaware, Android Wear is the operating system that is now known as Wear OS.

The “UM” stands for “Unified Modem” and “SW5100” is referring to the Snapdragon Wear 5100 name. As per the report, the chip is codenamed “monaco.” It is expected to be based on Qualcomm’s “bengal” platform.

This new chip could come with a quad-core processor with ARM Cortex-A73 cores. For comparison, the current-generation Snapdragon 4100 comes with a quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 configuration.

The report goes on to mention that code snippets indicate that this new chip for wearable devices is based on Android 10 and Android 11. So, there’s a question mark about the support for the Wear OS 3 platform which is a unified version of Google and Samsung’s operating system for wearable devices.

Qualcomm has announced that the existing Snapdragon Wear 3100, 4100, and 4100+ chips are capable of running Wear OS 3 but it’s unlikely that the device manufacturers will be releasing a major update for the devices.

A few days ago, the company also announced the Wearables Ecosystem Accelerator program, which aims to have Qualcomm at the center of the upcoming Wear OS devices.

While Qualcomm has released a few chips for wearable devices, it has not been able to make its mark in this segment. Even smartphone makers are now slowly designing their own chips, Google is the latest example with its Tensor SoC. It will be interesting to see what Qualcomm has up its sleeves to remain a dominant player in the market.

Nokia 400 "Android" | Launch soon | Final stage of Development | Hikari Calyx

Hikari Calyx posted a video of the Nokia 400 4G feature phone running Google Android for feature phone, or GAFP as you can find it on the web. Hikari also tweeted some short instructional videos that show Nokia Mobile’s intent of announcing Nokia 400 4G at the Indian market.

The phone looks quite interesting since it is coming with a main and selfie camera, a nice screen, and most importantly a capable OS. Google adjusted nicely Android for feature phones and it works better than KaiOS according to this video demo. That this phone was close to the announcement shows a WiFi certificate it got in January 2020.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Nokia 400 was earlier spotted in a hands-on video and a Wi-Fi certification website
  • Nokia 400 was long expected to be the first phone to feature GAFP – Google Android for Feature Phones
  • The feature phone from Nokia seems to be shelved for now but this new video shows its UI and hardware in detail

Google implemented a familiar UI and downscaled all of its most popular apps and services to this device. There is also a Chrome Fun dinosaur game that you probably have played when Chrome loses internet connection. This can be interpreted as a direct attack on Snake which is also available on Nokia 400 4G. Maybe Nokia itself pulled a plug on this phone since Snake is connected tightly with Nokia feature phones, and nothing can break that bond, not even a dinosaur from Google.

This phone could have been popular even outside of India, but the ways of Google are mysterious. Maybe there is a new version of GAFP in the works, and if it looks and feels better than the one seen in the video, this Nokia feature phone could finally become a link between feature and smart phones.

Twitter add new sign-in options | To Apple & Google ID

It's been in development for some time, but today, Twitter has officially launched the capacity to sign-up and/or log-in to the app using your Google or Apple credentials.

The option will make it easier to access Twitter through the use of your device info, so you won't have to enter your password every time.

To utilize the new option, users will first need to update their Twitter account to the latest version. You then need to log-out of the app entirely (all connected accounts) and then, when you go to log back in, you'll see the new Google and Apple sign-in options.

Once you've used either, it will be assigned to your account, meaning that your Google/Apple credentials will be linked to your Twitter profile. The only caveat here is that each account will need to use the same email as your Twitter profile, to ensure the info matches up.

It could be a handy option to make it easier to log into Twitter, streamlining the process and reducing the amount of passwords you need to type in. Which can be a big help, especially considering the long strings of numbers, text and symbols that you now need to remember to maximize security.

The option is being rolled out to all users from today, with web sign-in using Apple ID coming soon.

Samsung galaxy S22 Camera design | Conform 50MPx camera setup

Samsung is working on its next-generation Galaxy S-series flagship smartphones which will be launched early next year in the form of the Samsung Galaxy S22 lineup. While there’s plenty of time to the official launch, leaks related to the smartphones keep surfacing online.

In the latest leak, tipster Yogesh claims that the Galaxy S22 series from Samsung, as well as some other non-Samsung phones, will come with a new 50MP RGBW sensor.

Ice Universe has claimed that the South Korean giant will be launching a new 200-megapixel camera sensor and a 50-megapixel RGBW unit next month. Samsung had previously confirmed that it was working on a 200-megapixel camera sensor.

Earlier it was said that the top-end variant of the lineup, the Galaxy S22 Ultra will be retaining the 108-megapixel sensor. However, the report was refuted and the device was claimed to have a new 200-megapixel sensor in a five-camera setup. The 200MP sensor is reportedly being made in collaboration with Japan-based Olympus.

Samsung recently announced the world’s smallest 0.64μm-pixel sensor, 50MP ISOCELL JN1 camera which is meant for mid-tier phones. In February, it had unveiled the 50MP ISOCELL GN2 sensor which is 1/1.12-inches and has 1.4μm-sized pixels.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 series is also expected to come with 65W charging support and the firm is reportedly testing the technology. The 65W charger from Samsung was certified by TÜV SÜD in February this year. This is the same charger with model number EP-TA865 which was certified by South Korea’s NRRA certification in September last year.

Last week, it was leaked that the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra are likely to carry model numbers SM-S901x, SM-906x, and SM-S908x. While not yet confirmed, the phones are expected to get launched in January 2022.

Klipsch launched TWS | Based on AI gestures

The results of an extended collaboration between Klipsch, Dirac and Bragi were finally unveiled at CES 2021. The famous consumer audio brand (a VOXX International company), teamed up with Dirac's digital audio processing experts, and the pioneers in hearables and creators of the Bragi Software Suite with embedded AI, to create the new Klipsch T5 II True Wireless ANC Earphones, which will be launched later in 2021.

With this collaboration, the Klipsch engineering team created one of the most ambitious true wireless developments so far, offering a platform that will evolve over time. The new Klipsch T5 II True Wireless ANC earbuds run Bragi OS, the unique modular software suite from the German company, allowing features like adjustment to the user's needs and usage profile, and full personalization with a user experience powered by artificial intelligence. This includes exploring the embedded sensors for user-defined gesture controls, like nodding to accept a call.

For now, Klipsch just details that the built-in Bragi operating system with embedded AI allows for Bragi Moves hands-free, advanced gesture-controlled experiences, and they promise to enable new functionality over the life of the product.

But the Klipsch T5 II True Wireless ANC earbuds are also appealing to users focused on sound quality by combining Dirac processing and hybrid active noise canceling technology. The Klipsch T5 engineering team engaged early with Dirac to make sure the Klipsch T5II design would be fully optimized and offer a clearer and more balanced sound performance. The Klipsch advanced acoustic engineering and industrial design team engineered the T5 II Series earphones to be "the best sounding most comfortable earphones on Earth and the embodiment of legendary Klipsch sound," they stated at CES.

The T5 II True Wireless ANC earphones combine a state-of-the art hybrid ANC with best-in-class comfort. The earbuds include 6 pairs of patented contour ear tips that are designed to accurately sit inside the ear canal. These soft oval silicon tips reduce ear fatigue, provide improved comfort and an excellent seal for noise isolation and superior bass. Inside each earbud is a unique 5.8mm dynamic driver design that uses a cellulose composite diaphragm with minimal thickness, drawing from the company's experience in speakers.

Honor Magic 3 leaks | With Penta camera design leaked

The Honor 3 magic series is coming next month and while we still have a few weeks of waiting to do, details of the phones have started to surface. Today, key specifications of the top model, the Magic3 Pro+ have been revealed and they are top tier.

The Magic3 Pro+ will be the highest model of the series which has four phones and Honor has packed really impressive specs into the device as revealed in a tweet by @RODENT950.

According to the leaker’s tweet, the Magic3 Pro+ will have a 6.76-inch waterfall display. The panel which is supplied by Visionox will not have a notch or holes for a front-facing camera. Instead, Honor will give it an under-display camera like the upcoming ZTE Axon 30 and Samsung Galaxy Fold 3. There is no mention of the refresh rate but we don’t expect it to be less than 120Hz.

Honor will include a 4400mAh battery in the device. While this is smaller than the 5000mAh battery inside the Galaxy S21 Ultra and the Mi 11 Ultra, the Magic3 Pro+ has the upper hand when it comes to charging. The phone will have support for 100W fast wired charging which blows away the measly 25W Samsung’s flagship offers as well as the 67W of Xiaomi’s 2021 flagship. It will also have support for 50W wireless charging.

No doubt these are impressive specs but we can’t wait to find out what Honor will be charging for the phone when it launches.
